Raising The Flag at Three Rivers House Monday 24 June

Chief executive, Steven Halls and I raised a flag on Monday at the district council offices in Rickmansworth to honour Armed Forces Day, which aims to raise awareness of the contribution made by people who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
The event offers the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from current troops and service families to veterans and cadets.
I would like to pay tribute to all the courageous men and women who currently serve in our armed forces – especially those who are still fighting in Afghanistan. As of December 2012, there were around 9,500 British troops in Afghanistan but that number is gradually lessening. They do a fantastic job working in extremely difficult conditions and it is right that we recognise their contribution. I would also like to give thanks to the tremendous social groups that veterans have formed and run in Three Rivers, such as the Royal British Legion which is very active in the district.
