A quick change and we are off to Standon between Hertford and Bishops Stortford. The party was held in the garden of Viscountess Trenchard the new High Sheriff. A High Sheriff is appointed by Her Majesty at a meeting of the Privy Council, they are charged with protecting the judges of the Crown Court and of representing the Sovereign in relations with the police, and supporting those who administer law and order. It is customary to hold a party every year to which Judges, Officers of the Armed Forces, Statutory bodies and Voluntary bodies in the County are invited. With such glorious weather and a magnificent garden backing on to a 16th century Elizabethan Manor house, much like Chenies Manor, it was a grand affair. We met the Viscountess and her family and chatted to the Mayors and Chairs of Hertfordshire, whilst drinking elderflower cordial and tasting small parcels of delicacies. An enjoyable evening.
