Service to Sport Awards – Hatfield – Thursday evening 5th December 2013Posted: December 6, 2013
Christine Beasley, me, 3rd place Alexa McPherson, and 2nd place Kenny Lawrence.
This evening we were invited to the Service to Sport Awards at the Weston Auditorium, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield. The evening began at 6.15pm with a light buffet and refreshments with the awards ceremony starting at 7pm. We were welcomed by Christine Neyndorff, the Director of Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership, and met High Sheriff and other members of the chain gang who were also presenting the awards. The ceremony started with a magical performance by The National Academy of Martial Arts with colourful costumes and featured movements from the martial arts. Angela McLean, from North Hertfordshire College, read out the nominees for ‘Volunteer of the Year Over 21’ and I had the pleasure of presenting the award to Christine Beasley from Herts Netball Association. Christine is a highly efficient administrator as well as a respected umpire, mentor and assessor. There is no doubt that Hertfordshire County Netball would be worse off without her dedication and hard work on behalf of the sport. The Master of ceremonies was David Croft, F1 commentator and Sky Sports expert, who introduced each category. A special Award was given to Mike Hamilton from the Bury Lake Young Mariners in recognition of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services, which was presented by the Vice Lord Lieutenant Richard Beazley On 15th September. It was a privilege to see so many people recognised for their abilities, Hertfordshire certainly lucky to have a plethora of volunteers.
