Beauty & The Beast – Hertford – Sunday evening 8th December 2013

Mayors & Chairs with their Children & Grand Children

Christmas really has arrived when it’s the start of the Panto season. We were both invited to Hertford for our first this year by Graham McAndrew, Chairman of East Herts District Council, to see the Panto ‘Beauty & the Beast’ in the Hertford Theatre. We arrived in plenty of time for the matinee at 2.30 pm, with our grandson Oliver. It’s a good excuse to take children as it allows you to let off steam and join in, and that we did with great gusto. What a superb performance. Never having seen  ‘Beauty & the Beast’ before it was a revelation to find out it was a French tale based in Paris. The Panto was introduced by the French Poodle who was outstanding, the cast had great voices and the music included ‘Show Must Go On’, ‘Paint it Black’, and numbers by Katy Perry with songs from The Muppets, with a great rendition of ‘Walk 500miles’ which included audience participation. Then the cast thought it a good idea to get a member of the Chain Gang up on stage (there were quite a few of us attending), and they picked Graham who performed with aplomb (don’t give up the day job). C’est magnifique!
Graham’s Charity for the year is Cazfest, a registered charity which seeks to create awareness of heart risk in young people and finance heart screenings for sixth form students in Herts and Essex. It was founded after the tragic death of a 17-year-old who died in 2008 from an undiagnosed heart condition. She was a student at Bishop’s Stortford High School. A very worthy cause to help protect our younger generation.
