Harvey Road School – Croxley Green – Friday evening 24th January 2014Posted: January 25, 2014
On Friday evening we were invited to a special anniversary, by Head Teacher Nick Rowlands, as Harvey Road School celebrated its 75 years. Originally a hut on the present site to house overflow children from other Croxley Schools, namely Yorke Road and Durrants, eventually becoming the present day building in the 1970’s. The evening was really all about older pupils and there were a lot around. The classrooms had photos of pupils from each decade going back to the 1950’s. It was good to chat to some of the ex pupils, they had many interesting stories, and an ex headmaster recalled his memories. The school choir did an excellent rendition of ‘Mr Blue Sky’ the ELO masterpiece and there was a piano recital by a pupil.
Harvey Road Primary School is a highly oversubscribed, popular community school and admits children between the ages of 4 and 11. They are a one form entry school with 241 children on roll plus 30 children in the Nursery. The school is situated within a residential estate and is very close to local woodlands. The grounds are extensive and include a playing field, three playgrounds, outdoor swimming pool and nature area.
We are very lucky to have such good schools in our area. Keep up the good work Nick!
