Pendley Manor – Tring – Friday evening 8th March 2014Posted: March 8, 2014

We attended our first Civic Reception last night at Pendley Manor in Tring. Mayor of Dacorum Penny Hearn had invited the nine other Mayors and Chairs of Hertfordshire, and everyone was represented. With 16 tables of 10 it was quite a big event, starting in the anti room next to the Banqueting Suite for drinks and chatting to the guests. Dacorum has a Mace Bearer and after the MC had invited us all to take our seats, the Mace Bearer led the Mayor into the dining room, to applause from the guests, the Mace being placed in front of the top table. We do not have a Mace in Three Rivers. Civic receptions are a great opportunity for a Mayor or Chair to invite volunteers and others who have made a contribution and difference in their areas and thank them for their efforts on behalf of others. It is also a chance to promote the Mayor’s charities and in the case of Dacorums Mayor ‘The Pepper Foundation’ which is a charity that exists to alleviate suffering by funding home care to seriously ill children within the Herts, Beds and Bucks communities. After the 4 course meal there were speeches from the Mayor Penny Hearn and Brian Johnson the guest speaker. Very enjoyable evening with good company.
