We attended the 61st AGM of theRickmansworth Society this evening. A society that aims to promote a feeling of community and foster a spirit of friendliness and co-operation throughout the Rickmansworth district, co-ordinating the activities of affiliated organisations and organising fetes, sports and celebrations generally. The AGM has always been the venue for introducing Miss Rickmansworth and her two attendants, where they are interviewed by Vice-Chairman Ron Edmunds and where Barbara Owen, the Honorary Secretary, presented them with their regalia. This year Arnett Hills School selected Miss Rickmansworth, Ellen Melville and her two attendants Katy Nutt and Stevie Futer. The usual reports followed from the Secretary, Treasurer Peter Waters, and Chairman Tony Berry and various updates on future events, which included the 60th Ricky Week on 10th to 18th May. I then presented the Kay Mendelssohn Memorial Cup to Nina Hosking for all her efforts and hard work on behalf of the residents of Rickmansworth, nominated by Three Rivers Museum and Phoenix Morris. The usual election of officers and then a break for light refreshments. Then followed an interesting talk by Paul Harding on the Rickmansworth Branch of The Royal British Legion whose membership ensures that Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten.
