Bishops College – Cheshunt – Friday lunchtime 25th April 2014 –Posted: April 25, 2014
It makes a pleasant change to have a Civic Reception at lunchtime as happened today with the Mayor of Broxbourne, Bren Perryman. Bishops College has an interesting history, the first college was founded in 1768 originally a college for the training of Nonconformist Ministers and then for the Church of England clergy. The premises were purchased in 1972 by the former Cheshunt UDC, which became Broxbourne Borough during the 1974 local government re-organisation. Like Three Rivers and many other Districts and Boroughs throughout Hertfordshire they are also celebrating their 40 years birthday. Being on the East side of Hertfordshire and involving a journey on the infamous M25 we left early and arrived early and met Bren and her Consort Freddy for a coffee in her Mayor’s Parlour. The lunch was in the Saloon used until recently as the Council Chamber with a balcony on two sides, a very nice location. We met the other members of the Herts Chain Gang attending, enjoyed a three course lunch and were entertained by Irene Alano-Rhodes a beautiful stage star from Hoddesdon who has appeared in many West End Theatres. Bren’s Charities are Macmillan Cancer Support and Blue Cross Animal Welfare.
