As a way of saying thank you to all the Stewards who give up their time voluntarily helping man our local museum, Barbara Owen throws open the doors to her house in Croxley Green. Barbara has been the Chairman of the museum for many years taking over from its first chairman Eddy Parrot. There were over 35 of the 44 stewards who work the rota attending the party. Barbara is renowned for her cooking and this year she cooked food from the medieval period, and during her speech she reminded us that Sir Walter Raleigh had not found the potato at this point, so don’t expect any spuds.
I was there in my capacity as the Vice Chairman of the museum, we also had our Patron MP David Gauke. It was a reasonably balmy evening and so some of us sat and chatted on the balcony overlooking the Chess valley towards the Royal Masonic school in the distance.  After the buffet we had the raffle and there were so many prizes donated it was practically ‘a prize every time’. Carol won the first out of the hat, and David Gauke won , then another four times, but he did pass them over.
Volunteers do not always get the recognition they deserve, which is why Barbara puts on this treat every year. If you have a few hours to spare on an afternoon why not join us, the stewards are all a very friendly bunch.
